On a jump-up out of Winton appears the 'Age of the Dinosaurs'. This is where the paleontologists and their assistants are extracting dinosaur bones from the surrounding rock. They have found dinosaurs unknown anywhere else in the world and some of the bones are very large - it is painstaking work using drills very similar to those used by a dentist.
After the visit we set off for Barcaldine - we have visited here previously so this time we are here for one night only. About an hour out of Barcaldine we passed through an enormous 'cloud' of locusts for about 500m. We attended afternoon tea in the van park - a local tour operator provides billy tea, dips, cakes and other eats - a very pleasant happy hour!
