Darwin to Kununurra

Tuesday night we stayed at a rest area in Gregory National Park, about 180km west of Katherine. We are meeting some really interesting people - our immediate neighbour was a Vietnam veteran with many health problems stemming from his conscription - last year five of his Vietnam mates died in their early sixties - it is tragic how a little marble out of a barrel can so dramatically alter your life.
Wednesday we left camp about an hour later than usual as our Viet veteran had forgotten to switch over his van fridge and his car battery was flat as ....... He only had one battery so we helped another fellow get him back on the road.
We then continued our drive along the Victoria Highway, past majestic escarpments in Gregory National Park, across the mighty Victoria River (watched a croc devouring his catch on the waters edge), past Boab trees with unusual shapes, across the border into WA and finally into Kununurra. Here we needed to buy fruit and vegetables as they cannot be brought across the border.
Now that we are in WA we are 2 hours behind Sydney time - it has been a long but interesting day.
