Kununurra to Fitzroy Crossing

Saturday we travelled from Kununurra through Halls Creek (police interest in our car!) to Mary Pool - a free camp on the banks of the Mary River about 100km West of Halls Creek. No phone coverage here meant no update to the blog (sorry Uncle Rob). We had heard that this is a popular spot so we were not surprised to find about 50 caravans there.
Sunday we managed to beat the mass exodus from Mary Pool and settled down to a relatively short and relaxed drive (180km) past the Ngumban Cliffs to Fitzroy Crossing. This is where the Great Northern Road crosses the Fitzroy River. The town has a fairly large community with Hospital, Post Office, School, Fuel stops but precious little else - an aboriginal fellow was looking forward to taking his new daughter on trips into the bush because 'theres nothing else in town'.
The caravan park, however, is one of the best we have ever stayed in - large sites, beautiful grounds, bistro/bar, amenities and pool.
Tomorrow we set off for Broome - we cannot believe how many people are caravanning these days so we are glad that we booked in for four nights at Broome.

  1. Hi Lyn and Phil
Yes I do remember the sights around Kunanurra - Im really loving all your pictures. Its sounds like an absolutely wonderful time. Probably better than moving house - Oh well - it has to be done.
